Gyrotonic (originally called "Yoga for Dancers") is a way of fitness using specialized equipment with weights and pulleys, that permits one to move with support and resistance.
It uses key principles also found in swimming, dance, yoga, tai chi, and gymnastics, and emphasizes continuous, flowing movements, synchronized with corresponding breath patterns. The main aim of a Gyrotonic lesson is to learn to move your body to its full potential, lengthening the spine and increasing mobility. You then learn to take what you've learnt into your everyday movements, so that your body moves in a more functional, harmonious way!
